In the summer of 2016 Seth Woods texted Richard Kentopp a picture of a bizarre hymn he found in an old Baptist hymnal. The two decided to each set the hymn to music without conferring with each other or the original. They then invited four other friends to contribute versions as well. What emerged was a cohesive and beautiful collection of songs, each with the same lyrics. Please enjoy.
Original lyrics by Sidney C. Lanier, 1880. The hymn first appeared as a hymn in the Methodist Hymnal, 1905.
